Hey Alumni! I've been working hard over the last couple of weeks to get some of the behind the scenes work done on the new alumni database, but now that that's coming along I decided it was time for the first real post of the semester! First of all, your alumni secretaries new and old wanted to say hi, so here we are:
The biggest thing going on in the chapter right now is Spring 2008 Rush! Our Rush Chairs Ed Kymes, Steve Elford, and Katie Mills are all putting in a lot of work to give us a great spring pledge class. This year they've decided to go with
an all-too-creative Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme: Shellin' Out Service!
As you may have already picked up on, another thing the chapter is really trying to push for this semester is further utilization of the internet to help streamline some of our chapter's activities. This includes not only the alumni blog, but also a blog started by our PR Chair, Shelley Dressel, to keep the chapter updated on the activities of our exec members and an online forum for the entire chapter. Here's where YOU come in: we would love to get alumni involved in the forum as well! This is a place where Epsilon can have a continuous dialogue about goings-on, and you can add your two cents. You only have to register once, and to do so just go to: apo.truman.edu/forum Register with your first and last name as your username.
Our Alumni of the Week this week was Steven Lieske Bennett. Steven pledged in Fall 1987, was a Yellow Rose, and held both a VP position and was the chapter's President. Steven shared that his proudest memory of APO was that during his time in the chapter Epsilon grew from fewer than 20 actives to the thriving campus organization that it still is today. Now Steven works as a patent attorney for IBM in San Jose, California where he lives with his partner, Mike, and their 8-month-old son, Soren.
Last but not least, here are some important dates that may be of interest:
Camp T-Bird
March 28 & 29
Epsilon Formal
Saturday, April 12
Section 49 Conference
at Washington University in St. Louis
April 4 & 5
Finally, I just wanted to say that I'm really excited about the central role that I feel this blog can play in our alumni communications for the coming years! Please feel free to comment anytime, whether on a whim or because you have a specific question/comment. We always love to hear from you. Also, if you have yet to respond to my first email with your updated information, please do so as soon as you get the chance--the database is coming along quite nicely!
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service,
Stephen Barnes
Alumni Secretary
